How many nights does my son need to attend tryouts?

Only one is required, but multiple are preferred.

 

Why are tryouts so early in the year if basketball is a winter sport?

We would like to join a 21-year-old league that has teams from over 100 programs and the deadline to register is September 30th.

 

How many teams per grade?

Our goal is to have 1 team per each grade, 3rd through 8th.

 

How many boys will be on a team?

Our goal is to have between 10 and 12 boys per team.

 

What is the cost?

If your son makes the team, the cost is $550 per player. $100 is due by October 2nd, and full payment by October 30th.

 

How often are practices?

3 days per week.

 

Where are the practices?

Various schools that feed into PR.

 

When do practices start?

We will host skills clinics beginning the week of October 5th. They are optional but encouraged. Formal practices start the week of November 2nd.

 

What if my son plays football, middle school basketball or another sport?

Their priority should be the sport that is currently in season and should only come to basketball if there is no conflict. Once the season is over, we will expect a full commitment to basketball. If they play baseball, we expect them to commit to basketball until the end of our season, roughly the first week of March.

 

How is this program different from the previous PR boys feeders basketball programs?

For the first time ever, the program is in lockstep with the PR basketball program, working side by side and in frequent communication with the head varsity coach, Brian Frericks. We completed all necessary paperwork and are registered with the state as JR WOLVES BOYS BASKETBALL.

 

Are parents allowed to coach?

We are working to have non-parent head coaches at every level. We may utilize parents as head coaches, with approval from the Board, on an as needed basis. A parent may be an assistant coach with approval from the Board. 

 

Is playing time equally divided?

In grades 3rd through 5th, coaches are directed to have play time and rest time equally divided amongst those that attend practice regularly. In 6th through 8th grade, all players that attend practices will receive playing time in every game. However, as the boys get older, additional factors go into the coach's decision, such as work ethic, effort, attitude, and attendance to name a few.
